Authorities issued airborne warnings across Ukraine earlier this morning. Regional governments have warned of possible Russian rocket attacks and urged people to seek protection.
A powerful explosion was heard in Kyiv, according to Portal. A rocket attack in the capital killed one person and wounded two others, Mayor Vitaly Klitschko said. There were also attacks in Vinnytsia and Odessa regions.
Two rockets were sighted over Mykolaiv, Governor Vitaly Kim said on Telegram. According to the head of the presidential office in Kyiv, Andriy Yermak, the first Russian missiles were launched. According to the Ukrainian military, they also destroyed 24 Russian drones.
Military: Danger of attacks passed
During the night, Russia tried unsuccessfully to attack regions in central Ukraine and the capital Kyiv with the missiles. The military command announced that this was prevented by anti-aircraft guns.
There is a great danger of further air and missile strikes. According to the Kyiv regional administration, 15 of the 24 drones were shot down in the capital and no damage was caused.
