Fátima Bernardes gives the best answer to the “excessive absence” criticism on “Meeting” and responds to ‘s unhappiness rumors with The Voice: “Very unfair”

A little over a month ago, Fátima Bernardes said goodbye to TV Globo’s Morning Hours after 10 years of “Encontro”. This Sunday (22), the moderator spoke in an interview with the newspaper Extra about the reasons for this decision and regretted the criticism from the public about her holidays, days off and departures. The journalist also denied rumors about “The Voice Brasil”.

Recently, the presenter has been the subject of a number of questions from the public regarding her absences responsible for the “meeting”. Many even joked about how many days the star wasn’t ahead of her show. A Twitter profile was even created to monitor the journalist’s frequency. Asked about the matter, Fátima vented. “Guys, this is so unfair! When you’ve had cancer surgery and you’re back to work in a month, nobody’s saying you’re back faster than everyone else. Then I have shoulder surgery where I am in a sling on my arm for six weeks. I went back to work without being able to put my hand on my head. Nobody sees that,” he said.

Fátima emphasized that her sick leave is not a rest period and that the broadcaster understands this very well. “I’m sorry, but Globo has never considered illness a holiday. I slept lying on a triangle with one arm removed from my body. is this vacation No! So, when I’m healed, of course I’ll take my vacation. The first thing I heard from my bosses was, ‘You have to get well, forget the rest,'” she explained.

The presenter even joked that she’s getting so many charges that it’s almost like being a government employee. “I have never understood this demand of the people as if I were an official. I am an employee of a private company that recognizes my work and my need for rest. Sometimes they talk because they like me and don’t want to cut me out of the program. I understand, but I need rest, recovery to come back better,” he noted.

The journalist also recalled that her work goes well beyond the hours she is on TV. “When I was with the Jornal Nacional, I didn’t work on any public holidays and nobody ever said anything. With ‘Encontro’ there are days when I’m recording in the afternoon and nobody sees it. I’ve taken several offhours courses for program staff…I know how much of my life I dedicate to work. When I interview an author, I read her book first. If the actor I’m talking to comes out with a movie, I see it first,” he clarified.

The Voice pilot rumours

Recently, some rumors surfaced on the internet that Fátima had already recorded a pilot of “The Voice Brasil” and that the result would have displeased the head of TV Globo. According to the moderator, that is not the case. “Nothing girl! You said I recorded it, right? I haven’t even spoken to Boninho! I don’t even know who the coaches are for next season, I know absolutely nothing about Voice. I’m concentrating looking forward to this final month of “Encounter.” The opening of the program on June 24th [de 10 anos do ‘Encontro’] it will be nice! I can’t tell, it’s a secret but it’s going to be different,” he commented.

Fátima also shared how the proposal to direct The Voice Brasil came about. “This proposal was presented to me. I didn’t want The Voice. I just wanted a new transition to entertainment. When the idea for The Voice came up, I thought it was really cool because I’ve always fought hard to have music in my program every day. […] Also, now I’m going to try to make a program with a finished format, because ‘Encontro’ was made by me with a lot of people. I have no idea how it will be. I still don’t know the schedule: when you record, how many days are blind auditions… I don’t know yet and I don’t want to. Since my first season isn’t until October, I better focus now on what we want to celebrate in these 10 years of ‘Encounter,'” he explained.

Reasons for leaving the “meeting”

As is evident from Fátima’s words, her immense affection for her program is evident. She denied that she was leaving unhappy and listed the reasons that made her leave Encontro. “My whole life has been daily work, I completed 35 years at TV Globo in February. In 2020, with the pandemic, I started thinking about moving to have a little more flexibility. The Encounter was only off the air for a month. I have a house in a beach area, but I couldn’t work from home like a lot of people did,” he began.

Endometrial cancer, discovered in December 2020 and cured a few months later, also made her see things from a different perspective. “The fact that I had cancer showed me that we need to transform our lives. Another thing was my son [Vinícius] went abroad to study. He has been in France for almost two years and I only got to see him once. Now Laura [outra filha] I also want to go abroad to study. My friend [Túlio Gadelha, deputado federal] lives in two other cities [Recife e Brasília]. I realized that I need to have a more balanced list of what I owe and what I want to do,” she clarified.

Fátima also mentioned the running routine due to the daily schedule. “Any trip I take has to be on Friday afternoon after the live program and I have to be back on Sunday and already preparing for Monday. I don’t know how to come to work by surprise, I have to take part in the whole process. So my life has very little free time.”

“Every day after the program, we have a meeting that starts between 1:30 p.m. and 2:00 p.m. Then I always have an appointment. Now, for example, I do physical therapy four times a week. At 6 p.m. I call the GloboNews newspaper to find out what’s going on, look at the reports, who’s in the program for the next day, what subjects I have to study, watch ‘Jornal Nacional’, cut a ‘Pantanal’, because we’re talking about the soap opera. There isn’t a Sunday that goes by that I switch off completely, I need to know about the football round, what’s shown on “Fantástico”… There are many responsibilities. And the public expects me, if something happens in the morning, in terms of news, to come on the air with something insightful,” he added.

Now, nearing the end of her Encontro career, Fátima announces that she will be “passing the baton” to Patricia Poeta and Manoel Soares. “I’ve been on stage with Manoel on the show, whether he was invited to speak on a topic or as a partner. But I think I never think about Patricia. Because she always came to replace me. So it will be the first time that the two of us are together on the same “date”. It’s going to be great, a very smooth, very smooth transition. I think it’s really cool that the show has built a strong story to the point where it’s already a part of people’s daily lives and staying on the air,” she said.
