The atmosphere between Faustão and Renato Aragão at Globo wasn’t the best

Two great icons of Brazilian television, Renato Aragon and Faustão at Globo they are already household names. Contrary to what many think, however, according to producer Rafael Spaca, the relationship between the two has had its ups and downs.

The famous man in charge of the documentary showing the background of the extinct group Os Trapalhões gave an interview to the LTDA podcast and brought up a story of past disagreements between the eternal Didi and Fausto Silva.

At the time, they were neighbors on the Sunday program, which reportedly caused friction behind the scenes at Globo and turned what was at best “neutral” into a dissatisfaction. It turned out that, according to the interviewee, Renato Aragão blamed Fausto for the low ratings of his program.

Rafael Spaca said that the situation happened in 1989, in Fausto Silva’s first months at Globo. According to him, Renato Aragão would have disrupted the station’s new reinforcements.

“As soon as Faustão came to Globo, there was Faustão, then Os Trapalhões and then Fantástico. When Faustão arrives, Os Trapalhões are already in decline,” he explained.

Then Spaca gave further details of the case. “The audience starts to dwindle and Renato starts saying that Faustão delivered the low audience and therefore the program [Os Trapalhões] it was bad. And Faustão would say: ‘No, my program is good, yours is bad,'” recalled the producer.

CARPET RAIL

The producer even went so far as to speak of an alleged carpet pulling. “And then they create something that Faustão believes Renato even tried to pull the rug out from under him. Renato took no responsibility for the program going poorly and played behind his back. And Renato has that quality,” he added.
