According to Western intelligence, Vladimir Putin was – and remains – misinformed about the prospects of an invasion of Ukraine. Both, by the way, on purpose.
“One of the Achilles heels of autocracies is that in such systems there are no people who tell the truth to those in power, or who have the ability to do so. I think we’re seeing something like that in Russia right now.”
During a visit to Algiers on Thursday evening, US Secretary of State Antony Blinken distilled the information that US and British intelligence had just released. Thus, Russian President Vladimir Putin was misinformed about the situation, prospects for success and global reactions before the invasion of Ukraine. Misinformation also persists and aims to mislead Putin about the course of the war, which he can no longer avoid in view of the unfavorable development.
