According to the airport, federal investigators arrived in Chattanooga on Thursday in response to the crash landing of a 757 cargo plane at Chattanooga Airport shortly before midnight following a landing gear problem.
No one was injured in the emergency landing of the FedEx plane with three pilots on board late Wednesday when it slid to the end of the main runway, airport spokesman Albert Waterhouse said.
The plane, which landed amid a series of sparks, came to rest on a grassy safety area next to the runway near Jubilee Drive.
According to the airport, the cargo plane had taken off from Chattanooga and was en route to Memphis when the landing gear problem was discovered. The plane circled for a while to burn fuel before crash landing, the spokesman said.
