Fedez’s sudden “stumbles” and speech difficulties during a speech illustrating his foundation’s activities, and his own affirmation that he has been suffering from speech problems “for some time”, have raised many questions about stuttering and in particular to the fact that it can appear suddenly in adulthood.
Elisabetta Banco, psychotherapist and expert in neuropsychology, clarifies: “Even if the best-known form of speech disorder or stuttering is the evolutionary one, i.e. that of the child (defined as evolutionary because it deals with the evolution, i.e. the growth, of the child manifests the child ) there are also others that can appear as adults”.
The reasons
What are the causes? “More than one. This can be a “delatency” of a stutter that was “compensated” in the past – thanks to integrated speech therapy and psychological interventions – but also a newly developed “dysfluidity” for neurological reasons or trauma.” But stuttering can be a typical symptom of a “Not typical. The reaction to a shock can produce many physical symptoms – such as tachycardia, shortness of breath, tremors – and psychological symptoms, typically anxiety, but also stuttering, which never occurs alone but as a correlate of these other disorders. ”
Possible therapies
Can you just “heal” over time? “We have to make a distinction: if a two- to three-year-old child suddenly has language difficulties when a new sibling comes along, the problems usually go away within a few months. On the other hand, if an adult stutters for just a day or more, there is no need to worry; if, on the other hand, it lasts for a certain period of time and is due to a trauma, it must be treated psychotherapeutically and, in selected cases, also with medication. If the origin of stuttering is neurological again, we need to differentiate. Unfortunately, if you suffer from a neurodegenerative disease, the situation will only get worse; If the dysfluency is caused by a brain tumor or a stroke, the evolution depends on the disease but also on appropriate rehabilitation measures».
