The Minister of the Presidency, Félix Bolaños, has been admitted to a public hospital in Madrid suffering from gallbladder problems that he has had since 29 (inflammation of this organ) caused by stones, sources from La Moncloa reported this Saturday.

The medical team have recommended that he undergo a surgical procedure scheduled for this afternoon at the hospital he is being admitted to, whose name has not been released. Bolaños will cancel his entire schedule and resume activities over the next few days if his doctors’ indications allow.

On the 2nd, during the institutional celebration of the day of the region, the minister played in a clash with the protocol team of the Autonomous Community of Madrid. Community leaders prevented him from entering the podium along with the other authorities during the civil-military parade that followed the ceremony, while allowing the President of the PP, Alberto Núñez Feijóo, to go upstairs. The minister had heard the speech of the President, Isabel Díaz Ayuso, in the front row at the Regional Executive Headquarters, but was absent once. He then explained to various journalists present that he did it because he was not feeling well.

Secretary of Defense Margarita Robles was present at the podium. Madrid President Isabel Díaz Ayuso later justified the refusal to allow Bolaños to participate in the delegation, which she said Dos de Mayo was “not a day for ministers”. Ayuso claimed that the head of the presidency, relations with the courts and democratic memory were not invited. In the days before, the ministry and the autonomous government had been conducting tense negotiations over Bolaños’ participation in the event.

Also present in the Presidential Gallery were the Mayor of Madrid, José Luis Martínez-Almeida; the Chief of Defense Staff (JEEMAD), Teodoro López; the President of the Madrid Assembly, María Eugenia Carballedo, and the Regional Vice-President, Enrique Ossorio.

Sources from La Moncloa accused the Autonomous Community of Madrid of not complying with Royal Decree 2099/1983, which authorizes the general order of precedence in the state, by “not allowing a minister of the Spanish government to take the podium of the military parade commemorating the Feast of Dos de Mayo commemorated”.
