Christine and the Queens at the Festival d’été de Québec, there will be a next time. The French star has canceled his three concerts in Quebec scheduled for next week.
Christine and the Queens were scheduled to perform at the Montreal International Jazz Festival on July 8th and 9th and at the Parc de la Francophonie in Quebec City on July 11th.
“It is with disappointment that we confirm the cancellation of the Christine and the Queens show. The planned visit to Quebec will be postponed to a later date,” said FEQ Communications Director Samantha McKinley.
The reason for his withdrawal was not disclosed, but Redcar, lead singer of Christine and the Queens, has said in recent days that he has been the victim of transphobia on social media. He complained that people used the wrong first name for him.
“I’m a human being in society who is searching for his truth, who has never felt like a woman since birth, who has already spoken about it in his songs on his first album,” the artist said on TikTok.
In a message published on Thursday, his Because Music record label defended him.
“Following the spate of transphobic and outrageous comments artist Christine and the Queens has been facing on social media and in certain media outlets over the past few days, Because Music would like to express their unwavering support for her. Nothing justifies this campaign of hate and violence. This also applies to all people and communities injured by these repeated attacks. »
The Festival d’été will announce as soon as possible the new program for next Tuesday evening at the Parc de la Francophonie. Les Louanges, Claudia Bouvette, Ghostly Kisses and Hyd are also on the program this evening.
