FIFA threatened Brazil with expulsion from all international tournaments because

Through a letter published by the AP agency this Monday, December 25, the International Football Association (FIFA) communicated to that Brazilian Football Federation (CBF) that the country's national team and clubs could be excluded from all international tournaments due to the intervention of the Court of Rio de Janeiro in the Brazilian Confederation.

This decision by the highest body in world football follows the dismissal of Ednaldo Rodríguez and his team as president of the CBF on December 7th.

Both FIFA and Conmebol have sent a letter to the Confederation authorities in the middle of a new election process to take place to replace Ednaldo Rodríguez.

What does the letter from FIFA and Conmebol to the CBF say?

“FIFA member associations must manage their affairs independently and without undue influence from third parties,” the world governing body wrote in the letter, citing an article in its statutes, according to information collected by AP and Brazilian broadcaster CNN.

“If this is not respected, FIFA will have no choice but to refer the matter to its relevant decision-making body for consideration and decision, which may include a suspension,” they added.

The letter is signed by Kenny Jean-Marie, president of FIFA's member associations, and Monserrat Jiménez García, deputy general secretary of Conmebol.

How did the Brazilian Football Federation (CBF) react?

Given this situation, Brazil would plan to set up a commission next Monday, January 8, to decide on this matter.
