Fifth defeat in a row for the Remparts

The Quebec Remparts suffered their fifth straight loss on Sunday afternoon, losing 4-1 to the Shawinigan Cataractes.

Like Friday against the Cape Breton Eagles, Quebec was the first team to score through veteran Daniel Agostino.

For the 20-year-old Montrealer, it was important to “set a good example for the young people and lead them in the right direction,” while his coach Éric Veilleux pointed to the performance of several veterans after Friday night's defeat.

On Sunday, Veilleux was more satisfied with the work of the veterans and highlighted the arrival of several new players in the team's entourage to explain the defeat.

“In the second third we received a few penalties and lost momentum. Looking at the number of new players we had, the new system and the new teammates for them while we're playing here in Quebec after traveling for hours… I think it's a question of getting the chemistry back is, be it on the ice or off the ice,” said the Remparts pilot.

For this reason, the Red Devils coach believes that the trip to the Maritimes that awaits the team next week “comes at the right time.” “We will be on the move, we will be far away, we will be able to do our little business and we will organize ourselves to make it happen!” he promised.

fighting spirit

Among the guests, coach Daniel Renaud found himself in a similar situation to his colleague from the capital.

“There were completely revamped lineups on both sides. I think there was a newcomer in every trio. “It wasn't a game of X's and O's. Instead, we put the emphasis on having as much fighting spirit as possible,” he explained near his team's locker room as the Cataractes players celebrated their victory to the sounds of Pitbull's music.

One of the Mauricie formation adjustments during the game was to put more traffic close to goalkeeper Louis-Antoine Denault.

From the first break, the coaches made the players aware that few of them were ready to accept the Red Devils goalkeeper's long balls.

This observation paid off, as Alexis Bonefon equalized on a power play in the middle of the second period.

“We felt like there were a lot of rebounds that stayed near the slot. “The players agreed to go inside, which gave us timely rebounds,” emphasized Renaud.

The Cataractes scored three unanswered goals in the third period to secure their seventh win in 10 games since December 10th.
