In an interview with the Vietnam News Agency (VNA), the minister said that his department had determined that the motto for action in 2023 was “Seize opportunities – towards the future”, adding that in difficulties there are always opportunities.

Regarding this year’s work, the ministry must first finalize all pending planning and submit it for approval, he said.

Currently, five regional and 42 provincial-level plans and more than 30 plans from different sectors need to be completed.

Another important task this year was the completion of the construction of the National Innovation Center and innovation centers in provinces and cities across the country; in addition to building and developing an innovation ecosystem and improving connections to the world’s major innovation hubs and ecosystems.

The innovation will focus on promoting green development trends and digital transformation in Vietnam, he said.

With 2023 expected to be more difficult, challenging and uncertain than 2022, the portfolio will focus on helping to keep the macro economy stable, controlling inflation and ensuring economic growth at a reasonable pace.

There is also a need to accelerate and transform the structure of the economy, renew the growth model, and improve the institutions and strategies for new economic models such as the night economy, the collaborative economy, the green economy, the circular economy and the new development trends of green energy and liquefied hydrogen.

The strategic goal is to make the economy greener and improve domestic capacity, autonomy and competitiveness, Chi Dung stressed.

He said the focus will also be on making breakthroughs in infrastructure development and public investment disbursements.

Although 2022 was a difficult year, Vietnam’s macro economy remained stable with positive economic growth and inflation kept under control, with the Ministry of Planning and Investment playing an important role.

Statistics showed that in 2022 the Vietnamese economy it grew 8.02 percent, the highest growth in 2011-2022 thanks to the strong post-pandemic recovery and above the set target of 6-6.5 percent.

The consumer price index was estimated at 3.1 percent, below the set four percent target.
