Canadian figure skating champion Nikolaj Sorensen has been accused of sexual harassment by a former American figure skater.
On Thursday, USA Today learned that the 34-year-old athlete was the subject of an investigation by the Office of the Sports Integrity Commissioner of Canada (BCIS) in connection with the matter. The American media got its hands on a copy of documents that the organization sent to the US Center for SafeSport.
The assault allegedly occurred in Connecticut in April 2012, when the complainant was 22 years old and Sorensen was still competing for his native Denmark.
The figure skater became a Canadian athlete in 2019 and received his citizenship in 2021. With his partner, Quebecer Laurence Fournier Beaudry, Sorensen is the reigning Canadian ice dancing champion.
The pair finished ninth at the 2022 Beijing Olympics. They must compete in the Canadian Championships January 8-14 in Calgary.
The identity of Sorensen's alleged victim has not been released. The woman would be a figure skating coach today.
