Film Utama competes in Cuba for several international awards

Havana, Dec 5 (Prensa Latina) The Bolivian film Utama, directed by Alejandro Loayza, will be shown today at the Acapulco cinema in this capital, after winning important awards at international festivals such as Sundance in the United States and Toulouse in France and Beijing .

The feature film, which competes in the First Film section of the 43rd edition of the Festival of New Latin American Cinema, tells the life of an elderly couple in the Bolivian Altiplano, where they suffer from a severe drought that leaves them in the dilemma of migrating again Rest of the community or stay to survive.

In statements to the press, the director explained that his work is a window to know Bolivia and highlighted the long history of the film with important cinematic events in the world.

“We are very proud to have a national film that represents the country at the most important festivals in the world and is doing very well. We really want to share it with the Bolivian public,” he said.

Utama, which means our homeland in the Aymara language, received funding from Bolivia, Uruguay and Spain, was filmed in Potosí, in the southwest of the country, in 2019 and first screened in January this year at the Festival de Sundance Film, where it won the Grand Prix the jury won.

The executive general director of the Bolivian film development agency, Germán Monje, told Prensa Latina that the film was also co-produced by the indigenous community of San Luis Potosí in Santiago de Chuvica.

This film won other important awards such as Best Director, Best Music from the Critics and Best Ibero-American Film in Malaga (Spain), three awards in Guadalajara (Mexico), the Jury and Critics’ Prize both in Cyprus and in Transylvania (Romania). ).

The Bolivian work has received more than 30 recognitions in different categories and at least in the 60 festivals where it has been exhibited.
