A young filmmaker, Emmanuel Gendron-Tardif, has been arrested for the murder of his mother in Montreal.
The body of Lysane Gendron, 61, was found in an apartment on rue Fullum in the Ville-Marie district of the city center on Wednesday morning. The apartment would be that of her 28-year-old son.
He was due to appear at the Montreal courthouse on Thursday to be formally charged with second-degree murder.

Ms. Gendron was Deputy Director of the Department of Culture, Leisure and Sport in Ville de Laval.
She was well known in the communal world. Several of his colleagues and associates responded to the sad news of his death on social media.
“Lysane Gendron has done a lot to democratize culture in Laval. She was passionate and knew how to win us over to the cultural cause,” wrote Valérie Dufour, liberal MNA for Mille-Îles in the National Assembly and official opposition spokesperson for the Laval region, on Facebook.
Louise Lortie, Parish Councilor of Ville de Laval, described her as “a passionate woman who has dedicated a significant part of her life to serving the Laval community”.
Emmanuel Gendron-Tardif, an aspiring filmmaker, has made three feature films and is working on his first documentary.
Lysane Gendron was the unfortunate victim of the first murder of the year on the territory of the city of Montreal.
