Find out when Karla Guilfú will return to the island after her outstanding participation in Miss Universe

Karla Guilfú Acevedo awarded Puerto Rico the Miss Universe award for the sixth consecutive year, finishing in the top 5 and receiving one of the special prizes in recognition of her social work project.

Although the Puerto Rican did not win the sixth universal crown, she shined as the only star among 83 candidates at the 72nd edition of the competition, which took place at the José Adolfo Pineda National Gymnasium in El Salvador.

Miss Universe Puerto Rico (MUPR) also caused a stir with her gala dress by GL Garlate Design, designers in Thailand.

The corset-style column suit featured a crystal and beaded neckpiece that hung down her back. The design included hundreds of crystals, sequins and beads in a harmonious gradient of blue and purple colors, colors that have a very special meaning for Puerto Rican beauty.

The base of the dress was hand painted in a delicate gradient.

The piece was inspired by a floral arrangement prepared by her mother’s florist, Celia Acevedo, for the reception dinner in the town of Patillas after winning the national title.

According to experts and specialist websites, the 25-year-old master’s student was one of the favorites when she was appointed. Her previous beauty pageant experiences include Miss Teen World, Miss Supranational and MUPR.

Guilfú Acevedo tried to break the streak of 17 years without universal crowns, joining the group of Marisol Malaret (1970), Deborah Carthy Deu (1985), Dayanara Torres (1993), Denise Quiñones (2001) and Zuleyka Rivera (2006) five Miss Universe Puerto Ricans.
