Finland at the forefront of NATO even without Sweden

(ANSA) – ROME, JAN 24 – Finnish Foreign Minister Pekka Haavisto said in an interview that Finland may be forced to move forward in the NATO process without Sweden. “Of course we will have to reassess the situation if the Swedish bid fails,” Haavisto told Finnish public broadcaster Yle. A 180 degree change from the previous position where Finland and Sweden were united in their NATO membership, with the two countries being historically linked and having a long tradition of extensive defense cooperation.
