Meloni's RAI is one of the topics that is always relevant in this first year of government. After the glittering farewells of this summer and the dissatisfaction with the unsatisfactory results, especially with some new programs, Viale Mazzini is sailing in difficult waters. La Repubblica's interview with Angelo Mellone, director of Day Time Rai Entertainment, comes a few days before the end of the year and blows on an already stormy sea. Mellone spoke on many topics, from the company's problems to his personal preferences, while also touching on some of Rai's familiar faces and making statements that top management didn't like. So much so that in the evening unknown “voices” from above ANSA expressed their anger at the publications in the press and wanted to distance themselves from it.
In the interview, Mellone wants to reject the expression TeleMeloni and rehabilitate what he has achieved in his career: “I started with the first evenings, then with the second ones, I collected results and no one can say: what is he doing?” ? Declassification as an expression of TeleMeloni is incorrect. I do television and am an author. In January, Paolo Costella will direct the film based on my book “In the Best Families” published by Mondadori. I'm not naive. According to Mellone, a critical problem with Rai is that creativity has been outsourced. The commitment is to create and invest in original Rai formats again. But in the meantime he smiles about wanting to “advance territorial programs: the great Italian story is the story of national identity. I have a more developed sensitivity to these issues.”
The excavations at Fiorello in Venier
However, there are also other statements that have caused debate. Looking back on the winter season and the duel with the direct competitor, the manager believes that “Fiorello, with its very high ratings in the morning on Rai 2, attracts viewers from the Rai channels, not from Mediaset.” The initial mistake was made: it should have been on Rai 1 should be broadcast. And with regard to another important name in Rai, Mara Venier, his reflections suggest that her future in Viale Mazzini is uncertain. What will the next season of Domenica In look like? “Everything has to be invented, we have to see what will happen with Mara Venier, who is a champion.” The program is fighting back, the competition has been able to build a very strong offer. Sunday needs to be rethought with a news/entertainment offering, perhaps in segments.”
Statements that were not well received within the company, at least according to Ansa. “With reference to the content of the interview that appeared in Repubblica with the director of Day Time Rai Entertainment, Angelo Mellone, from Rai circles, it is said: “It turns out that some references to Fiorello and Mara Venier are loose words “that don’t do that.” at all correspond to the thoughts of top management. In fact, the talent, passion, enormous ratings success and challenge of a morning show on Rai2 of an absolute star like Fiorello are undeniable – and represent a fundamental resource for public service. And the same goes for the great contribution that the lady of Sunday television like Mara Venier Rai has done and will continue to do next season.”
