The body was entrusted to pathologists at the Forensic Science and Medicine Laboratory “to confirm the identity,” said Julien Lévesque, spokesman for the Montreal police.

For the first time since the fire last Thursday, the police and fire brigade were able to inspect the crime scene from the inside with a crane and a basket.

At least five other people are still being sought.

Due to the monument character, the instability of the building and the amount of rubble, the search is being carried out with patience and meticulousness.

Came from New York

Jonathan Clark, a very close friend of a potential victim, traveled from New York to the scene of the tragedy.

He walked through Old Montreal on Wednesday afternoon, holding a poster that featured a photo of his girlfriend Saniya Khan and her longtime friend Dania Zafar. Both women have been missing since the fire.

Saniya Khan, 30, reportedly traveled to Montreal to visit Dania.

“They will be friends forever now,” Clark told TVA Nouvelles. They hadn’t seen each other for a very long time. »

” She was [pour moi] a good friend, he added. The best friend you can have with complete trust. she will miss me »

Keep in mind that the missing people are from Quebec, Ontario and the United States and that the accommodation in the building was rented out illegally on the Airbnb platform.

Another San Diego American is said to be among the victims, according to a relative who confided in TVA Nouvelles. Anne Wu, a 31-year-old neuroscientist, was in Montreal for a conference.
