Fired General Hospital actor Steve Burton finalizes divorce two years after shocking split from wife Sheree Gusti

  • Burton and Gustin agreed to permanently waive spousal support
  • Custody of their three children remains unchanged
  • Tension between them reportedly worsened after he was fired due to Covid restrictions

Soap opera actor Steve Burton has reached the end of his long divorce journey.

The 53-year-old former General Hospital star has finalized his divorce from his estranged wife Sheree Gustin, 45, nearly two years after their messy public split, according to court documents obtained by Us Weekly.

The drama of Burton's regular appearance appeared to have spilled over into his own life when he announced in May 2022 that his wife was having a fourth child that was not his.

The shocking revelation came six months after the TV star was fired from General Hospital after refusing to get vaccinated against Covid-19, which he reportedly wouldn't do due to his support of “personal freedom.”

The documents showed the divorce was finalized back in December.

Steve Burton, 53, has finalized his divorce from ex-wife Sheree Gustin, 45, nearly two years after they began their separation, according to court documents obtained by Us Weekly; to be seen in 2021 Burton announced his split from Gustin in May 2022, when he revealed that she was expecting a fourth child with another man; seen in 2019

In the documents, the former spouses stated that their divorce was uncontested.

Sheree has also asked the judge overseeing the divorce to permanently end all spousal support for her and Burton.

The actor previously filed for joint custody of their three children, and custody and visitation rights for Makena, Jack and Brooklyn will not change even after the divorce is finalized.

In his original divorce filing, Burton claimed that he and his ex separated in March 2022, citing “irreconcilable differences” as the reason for their split.

Unlike her actor husband, Sheree has kept a low profile since the split and never appears to have discussed their separation or divorce publicly.

In February, she gave birth to her fourth child, a daughter named Izabella.

Sheree is now 30 weeks old and has her fifth child, but she has neither revealed his father nor clarified if he has the same father as her previous child.

In October, she joked that if someone had told her that she would end up having five children, two of which were born when she was well into her 40s, she would have “laughed and said you were crazy.”

The same month Burton announced their split, a source told People magazine that he and Gustin had been in the “expiration phase” of their marriage “for a while.”

The insider stated that his decision not to adhere to the Covid-19 vaccination requirement on the set of General Hospital contributed to their eventual breakup.

Sheree asked a judge to permanently end any spousal support for either party. Their custody agreement for their three children remains unchanged. A source previously told People that the relationship soured after Burton was fired from General Hospital (pictured) in 2021 after refusing to get vaccinated against Covid-19. Burton has appeared on the series off and on since 1991, but his character Jason Morgan appeared to be killed when a tunnel collapsed on him

“Their lives changed when he experienced some unrest and anger over what he felt was a threat to his freedoms,” they said diplomatically. “He had to leave a show he loved, which caused chaos in his life.”

They added that his actions left Sheree “dissatisfied” and she began looking for “something more.”

The couple originally tied the knot in 1999.

Steve had played the character Jason Morgan on General Hospital off and on since 1991, but the character appeared to have been killed off in 2021 when a tunnel collapsed on top of him.
