Caledonians admired the fireworks in Sainte Marie on January 1st at 8 p.m. Some may have seen that a bush fire had broken out on the island of Nouméa. This has gained momentum. Firefighters were on scene at 9 p.m. to bring the accident under control and no injuries were reported.

A bushfire broke out on the island of Sainte Marie during the fireworks display that took place in Noumea on January 1st at 8 p.m. At the end of the broadcast, the microphone indicated that the firefighters had the situation under control.
Due to the extreme risk of forest fires in Nouméa, the number of firefighters has been increased. Six firefighters were present on the island. The fire broke out in the middle of the show. But the firefighters had to wait until the end of the show to intervene. Fifteen minutes in which the flames continued to spread.

Piles of dead wood that had not been evacuated fueled the fire. In total, the firefighters were on duty with reinforcements for almost three hours. And according to our information, the fire burned half of the vegetation on the island.
No injuries were reported. The Nouméa town hall did not want to react.
