Pasture, new Disney+ series based on the movie Willow: In the land of magic from 1988 promises to continue the story of the film universe after the original events. Although the feature film was not a huge success like other Lucasfilm projects such as Star Wars, the production gained a loyal audience eager for the return of these characters in the new series. Many critics have already checked out the series, and first impressions indicate that they seem to have liked the final product.
On Rotten Tomatoes, a reviewgathering website, the production has an 89% approval rating from critics, but only 29% from the public.
Among the critics we have Helen O’Hara, from Empire Magazine, which states:
“Ultimately, it’s far less about nostalgia and more about expanding the world of the original film to encompass a new complexity and new identity among these Daikinis, and it’s a real treat.”
Alan Sepinwall, from Rolling Stone, believes the series doesn’t know what audience it was made for:
“A show that can’t quite decide what it wants to be or who its target audience is.”
O Hollywood reporter says that Willow still has room for improvement, but that pleases the fans:
“Willow on Disney+ is still trying to find its tone, pace and character, delivering a lot of what fans care about and will be fun for some curious people.”
Joshua Alston, of Variety says the series isn’t overcommitting and just wants to please viewers:
“Willow doesn’t want to commit to being deep, she’s just here to please, and she does it so effectively that she’s reforming a bad franchise.”
Jack Seale vom Guardian says that reviving Willow is a good thing but that he believes she will be forgotten soon after:
“Willow is worth reviving, even if we probably won’t remember it for a long time.”
