Police departments in Lyon County, where the incident occurred, said they received calls about a plane crash around 9:15 p.m. local time on Friday. The wreckage was found about two hours later.
The pilot reportedly lost control of his plane as it drove through a major snowstorm that still afflicts parts of the United States today.
In addition to the pilot, a nurse, a member of the paramedic team, a patient and a family member died in the incident. They were the only five people on board.
The families of the victims were informed of the incident. The National Transportation Safety Board, which addressed the situation on Saturday, will hold a press conference Sunday morning to provide the latest updates.
