In Slovenia, five people, including three adults from the same family and two guides, were trapped in a cave, leading to a complex and challenging rescue operation.
The incident occurred in Krizna Jama, a cave widely known in the country for its size and historical significance. Despite everything that has happened, according to the head of the Slovenian Speleology Association, Igor Benko, everyone is in good health.
Divers come to the group
On Saturday evening the 6th, a team of divers managed to reach the group. They were taken to a safe location previously designated for emergencies like this. They were provided with water and food and a shelter was built to keep them warm. However, the rescue operation is continuing because the conditions for a complete rescue are not yet guaranteed. “The group can only be saved when the water level drops,” explained Benko.
New rescue strategies
A new strategy is being planned for the rescue operation. An additional team of divers will be sent to the site, which is more than 2 km from the cave entrance. It is estimated that the operation to fully rescue the group will take three to four hours. There are currently 35 cave rescuers, eight divers and 11 firefighters involved in the rescue operation.
The Significance of Krizna Jama Cave
The Krizna Jama cave, where the incident occurred, is of great importance for the country. According to the STA news agency, it is considered the fourth largest known underground ecosystem in the world in terms of biodiversity.
