The Packers, Jets and Chiefs are among the teams that make sense
Pete Carroll expressed how the Seahawks intend to keep receiver DK Metcalf, very similar to what the head coach said before the organization traded Russell Wilson, which has fueled speculation that the star wideout could end up elsewhere this offseason.
Metcalf, who is set to enter the final season of his rookie contract, would need to be traded from Seattle to play for another team during the 2022 season. The second-round pick in 2019, which was surprisingly drafted and has since caused other teams to regret it, likely has high eyes on a big one given recent deals in Tyreek Hill and Davante Adams – both a cut above Metcalf Payday with Christian Kirk.
It has many wondering where Metcalf might end up should the Seahawks trade him.
Here are five options with betting prices from Bookies.com.
Green Bay Packers +500
The Packers reclaimed a first-round and second-round player by selling Adams to the Las Vegas Raiders two weeks ago. But the organization has put that more down to the fact that Adams wanted to play somewhere else, as opposed to Green Bay, who didn’t want to pay him. The Packers now need a new No. 1 receiver with Aaron Rodgers locked in long-term and Metcalf would be one to move the needle, represented by the 5-to-1 bet prices. Green Bay has two first-round picks (#22, 28) and two second-round picks after the Adams trade in this year’s draft. They also keep each of their top picks in future drafts.
New York Jets +550
The Jets have reportedly kicked the hoops of a number of receivers entering their final year of contract – AJ Brown, Deebo Samuel, Metcalf – after missing Hill. The trade package to the Chiefs reported by the Jets was also quite substantial, indicating their desire to land a top wideout. On the field, Metcalf would give second-year quarterback Zach Wilson a No. 1 wideout, while off the field it feels like he’s enjoying the bright lights. New York has two first-rounders (including a top 5 pick and Seattles from the Jamal Adams trade, No. 10) and two second-rounders in the 2022 NFL Draft.
Kansas City Chiefs +750
The Chiefs got a move when they sent Hill to the Dolphins with Miami and then paid the quick wideout more than any non-quarterback. However, the trade gives Patrick Mahomes one less receiver to throw at. Kansas City signed JuJu Smith-Schuster to a one-year deal, but suspending Metcalf with an extension would be welcomed by their superstar quarterback with KC in win-now mode. Similar to the Packers and Jets, the Chiefs have two first-rounders (#29, 30) and second-rounders in this year’s draft.
Chicago Bears +900
The Bears could really use a pass catcher to help second-year QB Justin Fields’ development. Chicago watched Allen Robinson sign with the Los Angeles Rams in free agency and now has a receiver room headlined by Darnell Mooney and Byron Pringle. That’s rough. Chicago has no first-round players in the upcoming draft, but has two second-round players and their prospective first-round players. Perhaps the Seahawks would rather send Metcalf to a non-title contender, even though Seattle seems far from relevant? That makes those 9-to-1 odds a bit tempting.
Washington Commanders (The Field +5000)
Washington, crazy as it is, has perhaps the best reception group of all listed here. Commanders wideout Terry McLaurin was drafted in the third round of the same draft as Metcalf, adding him to the list of wideouts entering the final year of their rookie contract. McLaurin was a big influence on the Commanders (1,000 yards each in the last two seasons) and Metcalf would offer a similar pairing with McLaurin as he did with Tyler Lockett in Seattle. One aspect that could deter Washington is the fact that they would need to lock up both McLaurin and Metcalf, but after being traded for Carson Wentz this offseason, their team could be looking to add another playmaker.
