Five-Star forward Malik Reneau commits to playing basketball in Indiana

Five-star recruit Malik Reneau announced his commitment to Indiana Monday, giving men’s basketball coach Mike Woodson his second top-25 prospect in the class of 2022.

Reneau announced his decision via social media.

He retired from Florida last month after the Gainesville coaching change: Mike White went to Georgia while the Gators hired Todd Golden from San Francisco as his replacement.

Reneau, a 6-foot-8 forward from Montverde Academy (Florida), is ranked No. 21 on the ESPN 100 for 2022 and the No. 5 center in class. Last summer, he significantly increased his roster while playing for the Nightrydas Elite Grassroots program on the Nike EYBL track, averaging 17.2 points, 8.5 rebounds and 2.4 assists in 12 games. He shot 61.8% inside the arc.

During the high school season, Reneau averaged 10.9 points and 6.9 rebounds in 10 games at the NIBC Invitational.

Woodson and the Hoosiers now have two top-25 recruits and three ESPN 100 prospects in the Class of 2022. Reneau joins high school teammates Jalen Hood-Schifino (No. 24), Kaleb Banks (No. 79) and Four-Stars -Wait at CJ Gunn.

Indiana is expected to bring back at least three starters from a team that went 21-14 and defeated Wyoming in the NCAA tournament before losing to 5 seed Saint Mary’s. Star Big Man Trayce Jackson-Davis is testing the NBA draft waters, but Reneau is offering some insurance in the event Jackson-Davis decides to leave.
