Canadian Primeau wins when losing

Five things to keep in mind in this game against the Red Wings

DETROIT | The three-goalkeeper waltz continues for the Canadian. For the second time this season, Cayden Primeau will have the opportunity to defend his team’s goal when they visit Little Caesars Arena.

The Journal offers five things to keep an eye on in this game against the Detroit Red Wings.

1 – Primeau’s turn

After the New Jersey Devils, Cayden Primeau will try to slow down the Red Wings’ attack. In his only start this season, the American scored four goals on 33 shots in a 5-2 loss to the Devils.

“It’s been a long time since he played and we want to give him a start,” said Martin St-Louis during a press conference with journalists at the team hotel in Detroit.

James Reimer will start for the Wings. Like the CH, the Red Wings also relied on three goalkeepers at the beginning of the season with Ville Husso, Reimer and Alex Lyon. The third goalkeeper, Lyon, is not yet used.

2 – Without Ylönen and Harvey-Pinard

With the exception of Primeau, the CH will not make any changes to its composition. Jesse Ylönen will miss his turn for the third time in a row. Rafaël Harvey-Pinard is still suffering from a lower body injury and will miss his third consecutive game.

3 – A Chiarot-Petry duo

There will be a defensive duo in the Red Wings camp that is well known to Montreal fans. Jeff Petry will run to Ben Chiarot’s right. In his first season at CH 2019-2020, Chiarot often played with Petry.

“We know each other well and can help each other on the ice,” Petry noted. I’m very happy to be with him again.”

4 – Watch out for the first gate

CH has given its rivals the first goal in the last six games. This is a bad habit that should be broken.

“It’s not bad luck,” replied St-Louis. We often quickly shoot ourselves in the foot when playing. We have to simplify our game, stay alert and disciplined.”

5 – Larkin on fire

At the top of the Red Wings’ scoring charts, Dylan Larkin is off to a good start with 17 points (5 goals, 12 assists) in 13 games.

“Larkin was a good center for a long time, but now he’s establishing himself as one of the best in the NHL,” winger David Perron said of him on Wednesday. I invite you to rewatch his goal in our game against the Bruins. We were stuck in our territory for many seconds and he found the energy to come back and score a big goal. It took a lot of gas to do that.”
