Turkish police have just added a number of supercars, luxury SUVs and sports sedans worth around $3.5 million to their fleet.
However, he did this for free, because the cars – which now bear the Trafik Polisi insignia, all completely white and with the mandatory flashing lights – come from a major seizure that the judiciary carried out against a criminal gang.
These 23 vehicles actually belonged to the collection of the Turkish-born Australian Hakan Ayik, who – as the Australian Daily Telegraph reported in reporting – is said to be one of the largest drug dealers in the world and has a personal fortune of around $1 billion.
As Turkish Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya explained in a post on X, Ayik and several of his accomplices were arrested in Istanbul last month. And now the sports cars and SUVs from his collection have been handed over to the traffic police following a court order.
“From now on, these tools will no longer belong to criminal organizations,” he wrote, “and will be available to our police and in the service of our nation.” The collection ranges from high-end models such as a Bentley Continental GT, a Porsche Taycan and a Ferrari 458, but also a Volkswagen Golf R, a Range Rover Sport and a Mercedes-Benz GLS.
