Flights to and from major Florida airports halted due to computer problems – Washington Examiner

Flights to and from Florida airports have been grounded, leaving airline passengers indefinitely delayed and temporarily stranded.

“That [Federal Aviation Administration] has slowed traffic into Florida airspace due to an air traffic computer issue that is being resolved,” the federal agency told the Washington Examiner Monday afternoon.

Air traffic control centers use the En Route Automation Modernization computer system to control aircraft in the air. Monday’s problem stems from an ERAM issue, the FAA added.

The FAA website said flights to and from six major airports in the southern half of Florida have been suspended until further notice. Delays range from an hour to two hours, but the government website says wait times are expected to continue to increase.
