Four members of a Greek rescue team died in a traffic accident in Libya on Sunday (September 17), shortly after arriving to take part in search and rescue operations following deadly floods, eastern Libya’s Health Minister Othman Abdeljalil announced at a press conference.
The accident occurred as the Greek team, consisting of 19 people, was on its way from Benghazi to Derna, 300 km to the east. Four of its members were killed and 15 others were injured, seven of them seriously, the minister said.
A week after devastating flooding in the Libyan city of Derna claimed thousands of lives, local emergency services, supported by foreign teams, were still actively searching for the bodies of thousands more missing people.
