When Mike Florio hears the name “Brock Purdy,” he doesn’t think of an NFL franchise quarterback.
Not because of his skills on the field, but for some strange reason.
On a recent episode of “PFT Live,” Florio was joined by NBC Sports’ Peter King where he explained why he finds it difficult to view Purdy as a franchise QB.

Dumbest attitude ever:
Mike Florio says Brock Purdy is NOT him #49ers Franchise QB because his name is too close to TURDY
“Brock Purdy is just a weird name, it doesn’t sound like a franchise quarterback’s name, Purdy is a little too close to TURDY.”

“I think when you think of a franchise quarterback, you think of (a name like) Joe Montana, Dan Marino,” Florio said. “Brock Purdy is just a weird name, it doesn’t sound like a franchise quarterback’s name. Purdy is a little too close to ‘Turdy.’ I just think people have a hard time seeing that name and saying, ‘That’s a franchise quarterback.'”
King was stunned when he heard Florio’s argument. Of course, one can assume that Florio’s comments were somewhat ironic.
“This is easily the most ridiculous point you’ve ever made… this is absurd, this is one of the silliest things I’ve ever heard,” King told Florio.
Florio reiterated his opinion and believes he’s not the only one who thinks Purdy’s name isn’t that of a franchise quarterback.
“I guarantee you I’m not the only one who said, ‘That’s not a quarterback name,’ when it first hit the radar screen last year,” Florio added.
The 49ers hope that Purdy will soon be a household name and perhaps one day a name that will forever be remembered in franchise history.
