Fnac decides to lower Xbox Series S price to sell stock

The Xbox Series S is a slightly different home console than the Series X, being less powerful and discless, but capable of launching the same games. It suffers far less from shortages than its big sister, but Fnac will clearly sell out with this unprecedented offering.

If the Xbox series sold better than the PlayStation 5 in February in North America and Europe, this is obviously due to the stocks allocated to the different areas of the world, but also a bit to the Series S, which is easier to manufacture and before all cheaper. The price of this next-gen console is also currently dropping to further speed up sales versus Sony.

What to watch out for with the Xbox Series S?

  • It’s the smallest next-gen console
  • It can run games in 1440p at 60 fps
  • There is no player, so Game Pass is a must

Instead of the usual 299.99 euros, the Xbox Series S with 512 GB of memory via SSD is now available from Fnac for 269.99 euros. Plus, the official Xbox Wired Headset is free just by adding it to your shopping cart.

The ideal console for Game Pass

The Xbox Series S doesn’t offer the same design or features as its big sister, but what’s notable about this next-gen console is the absence of the Blu-ray player. This leads to the impossibility of using your old Xbox games (One, 360, etc.) or borrowing new and future titles from his friends. You will therefore have to go through the Microsoft Store to buy your games or simply subscribe to Xbox Game Pass. This monthly subscription usually turns out to be a must-have, but this is even more the case with the Series S.

You can then play hundreds of unlimited games by downloading them straight to the console. There are many independent productions, but also first-party Microsoft titles and plenty of third-party games. But the big highlight is that any next big Triple A’s will be added to the catalog as soon as they’re released, and they promise to be numerous since the Besthesda and Activision-Blizzard acquisition.

The affordable next-gen

With more than 200 euros difference to today’s Series X, Microsoft’s cheap console is obviously the weaker of the two: 4 TFlops against 12. However, these numbers cannot be compared with the Xbox One / PlayStation 4 generation, as next-gen machines are not based on same architecture. The S has almost the same AMD Zen 2 processor as its big sister and offers the same ray tracing capabilities, as well as using the SSD (512 GB) with the Xbox Velocity Architecture, which greatly reduces loading times. This also makes it compatible with the Quick Resume feature, which has just been enhanced. The Xbox Series S is primarily designed for Full HD screens – with a maximum resolution of 1440p.
