Foilboards on the Grand Canal: Two Australians leave a lot of money in Venice

Two Australians are paying dearly for their trip to Venice. On Wednesday morning, the two young men deftly circled water taxis and gondolas on the Grand Canal with two electrically operated aluminum plates and filmed each other. In turn, they were also photographed and filmed by dozens of people on boats and on the dock walls.

Venice Mayor Luigi Brugnaro chastised the two on Twitter as “fools and exhibitionists” and promised a dinner party for anyone who could provide clues to finding the illegal electro-surfers.

In fact, it took only a few hours for the two culprits to be identified – either by tips from the population or by evaluating recordings from the numerous surveillance cameras of the lagoon city, the city hall did not inform.

The two foilboards with a total value of around 25,000 euros were confiscated because there was no insurance coverage for them, officials said. In addition, a fine of €1,500 each was imposed on the two for jeopardizing transport safety and they were banned with immediate effect.
