The Carrefour Solidaire CCA is looking for one Facilitator in nutrition education. This person will participate in leading and preparing cooking activities for children and youth associated with our lunch box and salad bar programs, as well as adults participating in community and community kitchens.
THE CCA Solidarity Crossroads is committed to increasing access to healthy food for all and supports the development of a local, organic and supportive food system. Its activities are divided into 3 parts:
- Increase access to fresh and local food;
- Develop citizens’ food autonomy through the acquisition of skills in the kitchen and gardening.
- Mobilize the community around social, environmental and political issues related to food.
South Center lunch box is a nutrition education program developed by Le Dépôt CCA and offered at Carrefour Solidaire CCA’s Center-Sud since 2016. We run cooking and nutrition workshops for primary and secondary school students, where young people prepare healthy meals and snacks. In addition to the after-school program, we also offer a salad bar program that takes place during the school day.
Community and shared kitchens bring together a variety of cooking activities for adults and families. Community kitchens are spaces where neighborhood residents can meet regularly to discover new flavors and prepare healthy, delicious and affordable take-out meals. Community Kitchens offers one-time nutrition education workshops and themed activities to community members and neighborhood partner organizations.
GENERAL ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Working with Carrefour’s Solidaire team, the employee will support the operation of youth programs and community and community kitchens by leading after-school workshops, the salad bar, and collective and community cooking workshops.
POTENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Animation of extracurricular workshops Lunchbox Centre-Sud: 2 to 4 workshops per week;
- Animation of the salad bar activities at the Jean-Baptiste Meilleur school: 1 to 2 workshops during dinner per week;
- Animation of collective and community cooking workshops: 1 to 3 workshops per week;
- Imparting culinary and nutritional knowledge to the workshop participants;
- Ensure a safe and hygienic environment for participants.
- Create a positive and collaborative environment during workshops and implement the organization’s code of community life;
- Communicate with program participants and partners;
- Contribute to the development, planning and evaluation of programs;
- Participate in team meetings and facilitate collaboration within the team.
- Animation of the closing party for the Center Sud lunchbox workshops;
Any other related duties that contribute to the proper functioning of the programs, organization and community life.
DESIRED QUALITIES: YOUR SKILLS AND TALENTS
- Experience in animation, particularly with young people, and comfort in dealing with a variety of people;
- Experience in cooking and healthy eating;
- Experience working with people in vulnerable situations and valuing cultural knowledge;
- Initiative and strong ability for collaborative teamwork;
- Dynamic and good communication in French, oral and written;
- Ability to stand for several hours at a time;
- Basic computer skills (Google Suite, Microsoft Office);
- First aid certification and/or MAPAQ certification (food handler) preferred;
- Ability to comfortably ride a bicycle and/or get around the neighborhood is an advantage;
- Experience in a municipal environment and knowledge of the Centre-Sud district is an advantage;
- Strong sense of initiative, creativity, passion for healthy eating and commitment to quality work!
- Contract term 24 weeks, with the possibility of extension;
- Between 12 and 25 hours per week; The exact work schedule must be agreed with the supervisors, but includes several evenings during the week from Monday to Thursday and the possibility of weekend workshops;
- Salary: $19.25 per hour + benefits;
- Supervisors: Youth Programs Coordinator and Community and Community Kitchen Coordinator.
