For the 5th choice, the CH would have 5 offers!

Montreal Canadiens general manager Kent Hughes would have several options on the table to return to the repechage Wednesday night in Nashville.

Reputable Daily Faceoff website insider Frank Seravalli reports that the Canadiens received five trade offers for their fifth pick overall. These offers come from teams looking to advance to the draft.

Such a swap could only come after the 4th-ranked San Jose Sharks are selected, so the Canadiens will know exactly which 5th-ranked players are available before making a decision.

In addition, Kent Hughes seems to have tried in vain to advance to fourth place.

“Sources say the Canadians called the Sharks on at least one occasion to inquire about the possibility of a pick reversal, but Sharks GM Mike Grier categorically refused to give up the fourth pick,” Seravalli added.

Corey Pronman reports that people across the National Hockey League are confident the Canadiens won’t pick number 5 Matvei Michkov, which could explain why Hughes is looking to back down.
