The Palace of Versailles took to social media this Thursday (19) to announce that its building is being evacuated for security reasons.
“For security reasons, the Palace of Versailles will evacuate visitors and reopen once controls have been carried out. We thank you for your understanding,” the institution announced on its account on the social network X (formerly Twitter).
The 17th century residence built by Louis XIV, the “Sun King”, about 20 kilometers southwest of Paris was evacuated for the first time on Saturday afternoon after an anonymous bomb warning on the website moncomissariat.fr.
Tuesday’s warning was received on the same website and was taken into account, a source familiar with the case said.
Last Friday, France raised the alert level to “emergency attack” after a man killed a high school teacher in Arras (north), amid tensions stemming from the conflict between Israel and the Islamic group Hamas.
The reason why the palace closed its doors this Thursday has not yet been clarified.
