Ford wants to open a cathode factory for electric vehicle batteries with the Korean giant EcoPro BM in Bécancour, various media reports.
The information released by Bloomberg was the subject of an article in the Korean press a few days ago. EcoPro BM is asking the government for help to make its plans a reality.
The total cost of the facility is expected to exceed $700 million. Ford and EcoPro BM will work with the world’s fifth largest cellulator SK On Co. to carry out this project.
Letter signed in July
According to The Korea Economic Daily, Ford SK and EcoPro BM signed a readiness letter last July.
The plant would see the light of day over the next year, probably in the second half of the year.
It is the abundance of minerals such as nickel that has lured EcoPro BM here, which is heavily dependent on China for its supplies.
At the time of writing, EcoPro BM and Ford had not yet responded to questions from the journal.
