Foreigners can leave Gaza this Wednesday (1); List includes 485 people; Brazilians are not listed
This Wednesday (1st) foreigners will be allowed to leave the Gaza Strip for the first time since the conflict between Israel and Hamas began. The information was released by the Brazilian ambassador to Palestine, Alessandro Candeas.
According to Candeas, no Brazilian was included on this first list, which includes more than 480 names. The data was published by the local authority in the Gaza Strip.
A source interviewed by Portal said that the opening of the Rafah border crossing for foreigners to leave the country was made possible by an agreement brokered by Qatar with Israel, Egypt and Hamas. The United States coordinated the effort.
In addition to people of other nationalities, Palestinians with serious health problems are also being deported from the Gaza Strip. There is no information about how long the passage will be open.
In this first wave, nationals from Australia, Austria, Bulgaria, Finland, Indonesia, Jordan, Japan and the Czech Republic are allowed to leave the Gaza Strip. In addition, according to Candeas, the list also contains names of members of the Red Cross and NGOs.
“For the first time, foreigners are allowed to leave the Gaza Strip. I believe new lists will be published soon and I hope our Brazilians will be on them,” the ambassador said.
The Brazilian government is coordinating with authorities in Egypt and Israel to leave this group. A Brazilian Air Force aircraft, which is already on Egyptian territory, was to be used for the return journey to Brazil.
