Jacqui Felgate continues to make waves at 3AW Radio, taking on a role as breakfast hostess this summer.

The 40-year-old, who joined 3AW Breakfast earlier this year, has teamed with former AFL champion Jimmy Bartel to temporarily replace hosts Ross Stevenson and Russel Howcroft for two weeks from Dec. 12 through Christmas.

Felgate and Bartel initially worked together as presenters during the September radio ratings break during AFL Grand Final week.

Speaking to the Herald Sun, Felgate praised her assistant co-host as well as Stevenson and Howcroft.

“Jimmy is great fun, great to work with. Ross and Russ, it’s such an iconic radio show, so it’s nice,” she said.

“I just love radio. I’ve always done a little bit here and there, but to be able to host my own show is fantastic.”

The former 7News and sports presenter joined 3AW Breakfast in April and already has a steady role hosting the foodie segment on the radio show.

At the time, Felgate described the role as her “dream gig” and said she couldn’t wait to “dig into the amazing food scene” of Melbourne and Victoria.

Felgate announced her departure from Seven in early April, and The Australian reported she was “less than impressed” when Rebecca Maddern “jumped down” to the top news anchor job in January after fleeing Nine.

Although it is not known if Felgate aspired to the Melbourne news anchor position, she left Seven for personal reasons just months after Maddern landed the role.

Maddern, 44, jumped from Nine to Seven in January and has since co-anchored Melbourne’s weekend news alongside Mike Amor.

Felgate announced three months later that she was leaving her position to pursue “new opportunities” after spending more than nine years with the network.

The popular presenter told the Herald Sun: “The last two years have been a really tough one for any family and while newsrooms are wonderful places and I’ve had a wonderful career in newsroom, it’s about time.”

Felgate continued, “I have a very young family and I haven’t been there enough for them and I want to be there for them in the time to come.

“At the same time, I’ve been presented with so many exciting and new opportunities that I’m dying to explore and look forward to.”

She said that after working for newspapers and television every weekend for 19 years, she wanted to be able to spend time with her family.

Abbey Gelmi was later announced to replace Felgate as chief AFL presenter for Seven.

Abbey, the granddaughter of legendary track star and Olympic hero Herb Elliot, has been with Channel Seven since 2018.
