The end of the connection between the leader and the Sparrows, reported by Le Journal de Montreal on Monday, surprised many. The client concerned preferred to keep the positive elements of their adventure with the team, which began in 2020 with the arrival of new owners Sid Spiegel and Gary Stern.
“To all Alouettes fans, you now know that the owners of the Alouettes informed me on Monday that my contract would not be renewed. It’s her right and I respect that. Thanks to all players, staff, sponsors and especially fans, he wrote on Twitter. Every time we talked in the stands and on the field, we had fun. Special thanks to Danny Maciocia [le directeur général], the hardest worker I know and my family who helped me achieve all of this. I love you.”

As fans, you know by now that the property that owns the Als informed me on Monday that my contract had not been renewed. It’s her prerogative and I have to respect that. Thanks to all players, staff, sponsors and especially the fans.– Mario Cecchini (@MCecchiniALS) December 22, 2022
At a press conference on Wednesday, Maciocia indirectly confirmed the end of Cecchini’s tenure at the Alouettes. The club, which took part in the Canadian Football League’s Eastern Division final this year, has recently experienced some upheavals: in addition to the departure of the president, Jason Maas was hired as head coach.
