German conservatives have given themselves a new look – at least visually. “Caddenabia” and “Röhndorf” are used – that is, turquoise tones. Former Chancellor of Austria Sebastian Kurz (ÖVP) feels reminded of the old days and considers the choice of colors “very successful”.

Instead of Germany’s black, red and gold circle from the 2021 election campaign, the CDU now presents itself against a turquoise and green background. Germany’s conservatives under Friedrich Merz created a new party design. It was presented on Tuesday. The new logo strongly resembles that of Sebastian Kurz’s ÖVP. This was immediately noticed by users on social media.

General Secretary Carsten Linnemann presented the color as “Cenabbia Blue, a turquoise color” before. It should represent vitality, confidence and freedom. The complementary color would be “Rohndorf” – would mean substance, competence and security, he said in the presentation.

“I think the choice of colors was very successful,” wrote Austria former chancellor Sebastian Kurz (ÖVP) on Twitter and sent a winking smiley in the direction of Friedrich Merz.

In the future, the party’s cards under Merz will no longer shine in the bright red of the SPD, as they did during the time of former CDU leader Angela Merkel. The CDU hopes to be able to score points in the next elections. There will be elections in Hesse and Bavaria in a few weeks.


States Parties shall act uniformly in the future. In 2024, the federal party also wants to provide itself with a new basic program.

Under Sebastian Kurz, who will have to appear in court in October, the ÖVP also renewed itself in 2017. The color of the party changed from black to Turquoise.
