Former 2018 San Jose Sharks first-round pick Ryan Merkley will continue his KHL career with Kunlun Red Star, a team based in Beijing, China.

Merkley never managed to establish himself in the National Hockey League (NHL), playing just 39 games at the Bettman Circuit during the 2021–2022 season.
