The Illinois-based content creator decided to order the item at the drive-thru for himself, but then admitted that it actually seemed “tiny.”
In the TikTok video he shared with his 209,300 followers, Mike began his playful investigation by asking, “Is the Filet-O-Fish getting smaller?”
He explained how recent pictures from other customers showed the menu item looked “much smaller” than he remembered.
“I’m not sure what’s going on, so I decided to just go to McDonald’s, buy a Filet-O-Fish and see what it looks like,” he explained.
The former chef recorded himself picking up the order of a single sandwich, which cost $5.42 including tax.
The burger consists of a steamed bun, fish fillet, half a slice of cheese and sauce.
He said, “I haven’t been to Subway in a while, but could you get a 6-inch sub with a lot more products and stuff on it for about that price?” I mean, it seems a little expensive to me. ‘
Mike then opened the box and then noted that it was “definitely larger” than in some other customer videos, but added, “It’s definitely still tiny.”
“This looks about average.” In fact, the fillet itself looks a little thinner than normal. “Tastes like a Filet-O-Fish,” he added.

Most of his followers agreed that the size of the burger has decreased over time, with one person writing, “It’s DEFINITELY smaller.”
“Last time I saw one it was a rectangle, not square like years ago.” “Seems trimming one edge gets you six fish out of five,” another person added.
A third person wrote: “They’ve definitely shrunk, and recently. “I laughed when I got one recently.”
“I had one two days ago, the urea was definitely smaller than what I had,” a fourth person wrote.
“They were always small, even in the 70s when I ate them,” another person confessed.
On the other hand, other followers felt that the size of the item had not changed significantly.
“Looks normal to me,” one foodie wrote, while another person commented, “Honestly, it seems the same to me. The price has definitely gotten ridiculous.”
One person had a theory for the size reduction, writing, “Maybe they’re making the fillet thinner because they have a double fillet of fish.”
The debate comes after Neily Bob, a US-based content creator, posted a video of the Filet-O-Fish and wrote in the caption: “McDonald’s Fish Filet is the latest victim of #shrinkflation.”

The debate comes after Neily Bob, a US-based content creator, posted a video of the Filet-O-Fish and wrote in the caption: “McDonald’s Fish Filet is the latest victim of #shrinkflation.”
According to the Corporate Finance Institute, shrinkflation occurs when the size of an item decreases while the price stays the same or increases.
The foodie held up the burger, gave his followers a 360-degree look at it and said: “It was already small.” The Filet-O-Fish has shrunk by, I would say, 20 percent.
“It’s weirdly smaller. I know my hands are big, but this is ridiculous.”
But U.S. foodies aren’t the only ones speaking out about McDonald’s apparent shrinkage.
An Australian customer posted a picture of the Filet-O-Fish sandwiched between a McChicken and a beef burger to compare sizes.
The person wrote in a discount Facebook group: ‘Has McDonald’s Filet-O-Fish always been this small?’ I can’t remember it being this small and kid-friendly.’
A McDonald’s spokesman said: “The size of the burgers has not changed.”
