A 22yearold Bolivian woman running for Miss World 2020 was arrested this weekend (23) on suspicion of arms trafficking. Police in Beni, Bolivia, said they found a large cache of weapons and AK47 ammunition at the home of Alondra Mercado Campos. She shared the apartment with her boyfriend, who remains at large.
Investigators suspect that the young woman is part of a drug trafficking ring led by her partner, identified by local media as Andres Vasquez. The boy's whereabouts have been unknown since the end of November, when the police operation was carried out at the couple's home.
According to the NY Post, Gerardo Balderas, Beni's prosecutor, revealed that a seized cell phone contained videos showing the couple at several parties with weapons confiscated during the operation. In addition to the weapons, police found ammunition at the scene, leading to Miss Bolivia 2020 also being charged with possession and carrying of weapons.
The newspaper El Deber reported that forensic tests on Alondra's car revealed traces of cocaine, which could potentially provide clues for further charges. She was taken to the Trinidad Women's Prison in Beni and is being held in custody for 30 days due to risk of absconding and possible obstruction of the investigation.
At her first hearing, the young woman was accompanied by five lawyers, remained silent and did not want to comment on the allegations. According to the vehicle, his defense denied all allegations. Alondra has more than 40,000 followers on Instagram and, in addition to Miss Bolivia World 2020, has also been crowned Queen of Carnival 2019, Miss Beni 2020 and Miss Charm Bolivia 2023.
