Former sixth man of the year Ben Gordon was arrested Tuesday morning on gun charges and threats of charges at a Connecticut juice store, according to the Stamford Advocate. Gordon, who was arrested on the day of his 40th birthday, is charged with three counts of carrying a dangerous weapon and two counts of second-degree threats. He is also charged with disturbing an officer, sixth degree theft and disorderly conduct.
Stamford Police responded to a call at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday from a man who was causing a disturbance at a juice shop and brandishing a knife at employees. Police arrived at the scene, where they said Gordon had “acted erratically”. After initially agreeing to leave the store, Gordon stopped complying and was forced to the ground to handcuff him. Officers found a knife strapped to Gordon’s pants, along with a stun gun and brass knuckles in his backpack.
Gordon was later released after posting $10,000 bail and is scheduled to appear in court again on April 18. This is just the last encounter Gordon has had with the law in recent months. In October 2022, he allegedly punched his son in the face at LaGuardia Airport in New York. Gordon was charged with assault, resisting arrest and violating a restraining order against his son. A month earlier, Gordon was arrested in Chicago for hitting a security guard at McDonald’s. In that incident, he was charged with assault and physical contact with the battery.
Gordon played 11 seasons in the NBA, primarily with the Chicago Bulls, where he was named sixth man of the year as a rookie. He was drafted 3rd overall in the 2004 NBA draft after spending three years at UConn, where he helped lead the team to a national championship in 2004.
