The São Paulo Forum has published the basic document for the next meeting, which will take place in Brasília at the end of the month. The text openly praises the dictatorial regimes of Cuba, Venezuela and Nicaragua, but also makes clear reference to China, presenting it as a “factor of stability and balance”.
By pointing to a possible threat from the continent’s far right, the material highlights that recently this threat has been partially contained. The text also highlights the progress made by Cuba, Venezuela and Nicaragua and stresses that the three countries are acting decisively.
The meeting, scheduled to take place in Brasília from June 29 to July 2, aims to honor the election of Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, who is expected at the event. The Labor Party (PT) holds the Forum’s executive secretariat and is one of the most influential members.
The document condemns the “coercive measures and unilateral sanctions” that the United States and European countries have imposed on Venezuela and Nicaragua in order to press for changes in the governments of Nicolás Maduro and Daniel Ortega, respectively. As expected, there is no talk of human rights violations or repression of opponents in these countries.
