Jorge Fossati will be the new coach of the Peruvian team. After several days of negotiations, the former Universitario coach confirmed last Thursday 21, during the Liga 1 2023 Awards Gala, that he had “reached an agreement with the Peruvian Football Federation (FPF)” to replace Juan Reynoso. The experienced coach will be in charge of a national team for the third time after his time in Uruguay and Qatar.
Before his trip to Uruguayan lands to spend the end-of-year holidays with his family, Fossati was approached by media representatives at the Jorge Chávez International Airport and asked about a possible confrontation against a Chilean who could have the former Chilean coach in charge of the team: Bicolor Ricardo Gareca.

What did Jorge Fossati say about a possible duel against Ricardo Gareca?
The 71-year-old coach made it clear that he does not play one-on-one, so a game between the two teams will play like that and have no other name. “I don’t play directly against anyone. The day I play against Chile, it will be Peru against Chile, not against Gareca,” he told the press.
Jorge Fossati showed respect for the Peruvian fans and conveyed an optimistic message given the crucial games that the Blanquirroja have to play in the coming months in the 2026 qualifiers and the Copa América. He also highlighted the words of praise that national striker Paolo Guerrero had for him.
“The love of the Peruvian fans is priceless. With everyone's help we will achieve our goals, I am convinced (…) Being praised by a player with a great career like Paolo Guerrero is a source of pride. May God help us to be the best we can be,” he added.
