Three minors and one adult have been injured in a horrific shooting in a passing car in San Antonio, Texas.
Police rushed to the scene around 2:10 p.m. Friday after reports of ongoing shootings in the north-east of the city.
San Antonio Police Chief William McManus said the shooting from the passing car was a targeted attack in which the intended victim was reportedly a man under the age of 18 who was hit by the gunfire.
McManus confirmed the other victims were a five-year-old boy, a 16-year-old boy and a 60-year-old woman, stressing that the attack was “not accidental”.
A large police presence was gathered outside the crime scene in northeast San Antonio
The attack happened outside an apartment complex, where an unknown number of suspects reportedly rolled into vehicles before loading up the victims and fleeing the scene.
The youngest child was in the target vehicle when the perpetrator opened fire while the others stood outside.
All four victims were hospitalized after the attack, but no further information on their condition was released.
No arrests have been made and the investigation is ongoing. It’s unclear how many suspects were involved.
The police chief said after the attack that law enforcement had information about a suspicious vehicle they are tracking, but declined to divulge further details.
“Drive-by shootings are always dangerous, not only to the intended target but also to other people who happen to be in the line of fire,” McManus said.
“Unfortunately in this case there were three other people who were not the intended target.”
“This was no coincidence … we speak to the intended target – which we believe the intended target is.”
