SAG-AFTRA President Fran Drescher received some attention for her comments on the picket line 8th of May Part of that is that she doesn’t think that “what’s very important for writers…is the kind of things we are.” [the actors] pursue.”
But while guesting on SiriusXM’s Julie Mason Show on Tuesday, the former The Nanny star said both her union and the WGA are “all cogs in the same wheel” and that “it’s important that we show solidarity stand by our sister unions.”
“It makes the work powerful,” she told the radio show. “And it’s a very interdependent and collaborative art form. And every contribution must be appreciated. And the industry as a whole has changed so much with the advent of digital and streaming that it is inevitable that serious and significant adjustments will have to be made when this time, as you know, many unions, including SAG-AFTRA, in the are about to renegotiate the contract because the entire business model of the industry has changed.”
Drescher also raised the possibility of a 30th “The Nanny” reunion in November.
“I think the reunion with the nannies is the most imminent as we celebrate our 30th anniversary this November. At least before the strike, we were in talks with Sony, our parent company, to see what we could do to help fans have fun and find it exciting. And hopefully the strike will be over soon, a deal can be struck with the Writer’s Guild and the AMPTP and we can get back to thinking about what we want to do for a nanny meetup, maybe as a backdoor pilot. We don’t really know, but we have a lot of options on the table and we’re kind of open to all of them, and everything else is going to, you know, kind of take a back seat right now because there’s only a 30th anniversary. And the show is, you know, a gift that keeps on giving and has tremendous longevity. It certainly stood the test of time and is hotter than ever because it’s running and streaming on HBO Max. And the families that see it today, the parents were just kids when we started in the ’90s. And so it’s intergenerational like it was in the ’90s, but it’s still the case and clothing is still a phenomenon… Hopefully we can intervene once the strike is over.”

Does Fran Drescher know she’s a union leader? There’s playing SAG cards near the vest, and then there are non-binding Bs that indicate tepid support. Her priority here seems to be making sure the cameras look their best as she poses with a strike shield.
