A 34-year-old Frenchman started a fire at his own home in Nantes on Saturday night to evict his friends, causing the building to be evacuated.
The young man, who is considered a fragile personality, admitted to having lit the fire in his ground floor apartment around 11 p.m., according to “Ouest-France”.
The apartment was crammed with belongings and the fire quickly broke out, producing black and sickening smoke, forcing the building to be evacuated at the same time. No injuries were reported, but many residents had to be relocated.
The arsonist was taken into custody, “his criminal liability has yet to be determined,” a police officer told the daily.
