A refugee camp set up outside the Hôtel de Ville in Paris, France, since early August has been evacuated and housed 226 people, authorities said on Tuesday.
These migrants, “mainly from West Africa, (…) were transferred to a temporary reception structure in Ile-de-France,” according to a press release from the Ile-de-France region and the police headquarters.
They will then be transferred “depending on the situation and with their consent” to temporary accommodation structures in the regions, which will provide social and health support and an assessment of their administrative situation with regard to the right of residence, according to the press release. .
A few dozen families have been camping near the forecourt since the beginning of August: often women with very small children, mainly from Burkina Faso, the Ivory Coast, Senegal or Mali.
On Monday, Paris City Hall called for accommodation for the families living there and requested emergency accommodation.
This is the 19th operation in Ile-de-France since the beginning of the year, treating a total of 3,283 people, the statement said.
